Arizona Blaze Delivers First Group 1 for Sergei Prokofiev
Whitsbury Manor Stud is delighted to celebrate a landmark moment as Arizona Blaze, a son of our exciting young stallion Sergei Prokofiev, stormed to victory in the Group 1 Flying Five Stakes at the Curragh.
The three-year-old colt, owned by Amo Racing and Giselle De Aguiar, trained by Adrian Murray and ridden by David Egan, confirmed his status as one of Europe’s leading sprinters with a decisive win over Nighteyes, with Bucanero Fuerte back in third. Already runner-up in the Commonwealth Cup (Gr.1) at Royal Ascot and winner of the Sapphire Stakes (Gr.2) this summer, Arizona Blaze has now taken the step into Group 1 company with authority.
The delighted rider, David Egan, added: “If anyone deserves a Group 1, it’s Arizona. He was narrowly defeated as a juvenile and nearly won the Commonwealth Cup. I’m delighted for him today as the son of Sergei Prokofiev — he’s a Group 1 horse and they’ve been campaigning him for that. Another Group 1 for Kia and for myself is very gracious and humbling — onto the next one!”
Arizona Blaze’s Flying Five triumph represents the first Group 1 winner for his sire Sergei Prokofiev, who continues to go from strength to strength at Whitsbury Manor Stud, with the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint looking the likely next target, after his narrow defeat in the Juvenile equivalent last year.
Bought by Amanda Skiffington for 36,000gns at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale in 2022, Arizona Blaze was later sold to Rodrigo Goncalves and Aguiar Bloodstock for £82,000 at the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale the following yea
Crowned Champion First-Season Sire in Britain & Ireland in 2024, Sergei Prokofiev led the standings by both winners and prize-money. He has carried that form into 2025, where he is currently the leading second-season sire om Prize money, underlining the consistency and quality he is passing on.
